The cylinder head and cylinder base are about the only places that *don't* leak oil on mine. I've got leaks at both the top and bottom of the speedometer cable, at the shifter, below the starter, and where the wires go into the back of the right side of the case. They aren't major leaks, but it does make one hell of a mess. I've finally quit trying to keep the bike externally oil-free. I'll just live with the leaks. I'll let whoever I end up selling it to in a couple of years deal with it.
For those whose bikes leak, just watch your oil levels and remember to top it off. Thicker oil is also less prone to leak out. 20W50 will not hurt the Savage at all.
